For over twenty years, the Independent Living Association, Inc. (ILA) has been providing exemplary residential care for adults who are intellectually challenged or developmentally disabled. When we opened our doors in 1985 under the direction of the late John P. Welch, ILA created a residential haven for people whose only other means of long-term care meant placements in large institutions. Mr. Welch's credo was, "ILA will be their home for the rest of their lives".

With the help of our caring, hard-working staff and with the support of the New York State Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities, ILA continues to carry out Mr. Welch's legacy. We have seen our agency grow many times over, with more development planned. As we continually advocate for our consumers, we take pride in ensuring that our residents flourish in the community.

In addition to Residential Services, through ILA CMS, Inc., ILA provides Medicaid Service Coordination, with dedicated case managers on call twenty-four hours a day. ILA and ILA CMS, Inc. are not-for-profit organizations. ILA also offers Training Services to its staff and to the staff of other agencies.
